Weather Channel series takes journey to Earth’s tipping pointsThere’s a lot of scary Halloween programming this month, but a new Weather Channel series might be the most frightening of all. “The Tipping Points: 6 Places on Earth Where Climate’s Changed” is scary because it’s real, showing what global warming will do to the planet if it proceeds at the current rate – starting with the Amazon rain forest, where drought, fires, changes in carbon dioxide, and loss of biodiversity due to climate change are converging with disastrous consequences. Premiering Oct.

Weather Channel original production “Tipping Points” charts climate changemedia-credit name=”Weather Channel” align=”alignright” width=”270″] [/media-credit] They’re not just about highs and lows on the map any more. The Weather Channel announced Thursday it’s latest original production, an ambitious-sounding six-part documentary series, “Tipping Points,” for which it serves as the U.S. partner. The aim is to chronicle what’s going on with the Earth’s rapidly changing (“destabilizing,” scientists say) climate system. There’s no mention of “global warming” in the project description, but melting icecaps and dying rainforests are among the critical examples. The six hours will follow a group of scientists from the Amazon to Siberia and beyond as they “explore the perilous tipping points making our weather systems more extreme and unpredictable.”
